Marquette pulls off big road upset

It has been a season of more downs than ups for the Marquette Golden Eagles, but Wednesday night may turn out to be one of their biggest surprise "ups," especially for a game that did not even exist on the schedule a week ago.

Freshman Dawson Garcia's 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting led the way for Marquette to defeat North Carolina, 83-70 in Chapel Hill Wednesday night. Teammates D.J. Carton (17 points), Greg Elliot (15 points), and Theo John (11 points) balanced out the Golden Eagles' scoring.

The Tar Heels were led by Garrison Brooks' 18 points. North Carolina falls to 14-8 overall with the loss. They remain 8-5 in ACC play. Marquette improves to 11-12 overall with the win. They remain 6-10 in Big East Conference games.

Marquette has just three games left before the Big East Tournament, beginning Saturday afternoon at Connecticut.
