Marquette used a late burst and solid defense in the second half to pick up its second Big East win of the year.
Markus Howard rang up 35 points on Wes Matthews bobblehead night to lead the Marquette Golden Eagles past the Xavier Musketeers 85-65 on Wednesday night at Fiserv Forum.
A 15-0 run during a minutes-long scoring drought for Xavier in the second half proved to be the dividing line in a bounce-back game for the Golden Eagles.
Sacar Anim, Koby McEwen, and Theo John all reached double figures in scoring for Marquette, now 12-5 overall and 2-3 in the Big East.
Marquette will play at Georgetown on Saturday afternoon.
