Marquette guard Markus Howard has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week. Howard set the scoring record at the Orlando Invitational while helping the Golden Eagles to a runner-up finish.
The accolade is the second of the season for Howard and the 10th of his career.
Howard averaged 32.3 points in a 2-1 week for the Golden Eagles at the Orlando Invitational. He broke the tournament scoring in only two games, tallying 91 points. He had 51 points in a semifinal win against USC (101-79) and 40 points in an opening round victory versus Davidson (73-63). Howard became only the fourth player in major conference history to score 40 points or more on consecutive days. For the three games, Howard shot 42.3 percent (14-33) from 3-point range. He leads the nation in scoring with a 26.0 average.
