The matchup will mark the program’s 16th in the NIT and first since the 2004-05 campaign. Marquette claimed the 1970 NIT title under Hall of Fame head coach Al McGuire and advanced to the title matchup in 1994-95 under head coach Mike Deane. MU claimed a 65-53 win over St. John’s in 1970, but fell to Virginia Tech (65-64, OT) in 1995. The team also finished runner-up in 1967.
Marquette’s most recent appearance in the NIT resulted in a 54-40 loss to Western Michigan on March 14, 2005 in the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
Marquette is 21-14 all-time in its previous 15 appearances (tied for eighth most) in the event and ranks 12th all-time in NIT history in games played and 10th in wins.
The Golden Eagles hosted UW-Milwaukee in exhibition action for hurricane relief on Oct. 22, 2017 and most recently played a regular season game in the Al McGuire Center on Dec. 19, 2014 when the team defeated Alabama A&M, 83-49.
